The Tobias Center for Innovation in International Development seeks recommendations for speakers to present at our Monthly Research Symposium series. This program provides scholars the opportunity to present and receive feedback on works in progress related to international development research.

About the Symposium Series
The Monthly Research Symposium creates a vibrant intellectual forum where scholars share emerging research with the Indiana University community. Speakers present works in progress, enabling them to receive valuable feedback while fostering dialogue on critical issues in international development.
Speaker Support
The Tobias Center provides comprehensive support for visiting speakers, including:
- Round-trip travel to Bloomington, Indiana
- Hotel accommodation
- Local transportation
- Meals and hospitality during the visit
- Presentation facilities and technical support
Eligible Candidates
- Scholars at any career stage conducting innovative research in international development
- Researchers from the Big 10 and universities in the Midwest are especially encouraged
- Scholars working on manuscripts, books, or other substantial research projects
- Individuals whose work will benefit from scholarly feedback and discussion
Nomination Details
Please provide the following information for each recommended speaker:
- Scholar Information
- Full name and title
- Institutional affiliation
- Contact information including a link to their website
- Rationale for Nomination
- Relevance to international development
- Potential impact of the research
- Value of feedback from the IU scholarly community
Selection Process
Recommendations will be reviewed based on:
- Scholarly merit and innovation of the research
- Alignment with the Center's mission
- Development stage of the work
- Potential for engaging dialogue
- Contribution to diverse perspectives in the field
Submission Process
- Recommendations accepted on a rolling basis
- Submit nominations to: tobiasdv@iu.edu
- Please submit at least one semester in advance of preferred presentation date
- Nominees will be contacted directly if selected
Additional Information
- Presentations typically last 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of discussion
- Speakers are encouraged to circulate papers in advance
- Sessions are open to the university community
- Presentations may be recorded with speaker permission
